We were now breaking the treeline and heading into the high alpines. Up until this point the hike composed mostly of switchbacks through a thick evergreen forest. Now the trees became scarce and the terrain much more mountain like. An enormous rock wall rose 2000ft towards a clear blue sky, standing guard over the glacial carved bowl of the “amphitheatre”, crowned by the looming summit which seemed eons away…
